Maths
- Maths Talk: Encouraging children to speak in full sentences using precise mathematical vocabulary (e.g., using sum, difference, equal to, denominator).
- Stem Sentences: Providing sentence frames to help children articulate rules (e.g., “If I know 4+3=7, then I know 40+30=70”).
- Real-World Context: Making maths meaningful by linking it to daily routines, such as counting the children present, sorting classroom resources, or using money in a role-play shop.
- KS1 maths is not about how fast a child can calculate, but how deeply they understand the number system. Success is measured by a child’s ability to represent a single math problem in multiple different ways. We ensure the basics are mastered and children can then apply these to different contexts.
